Comet McNaught emerged into the South Western sky in early January 2007 with increasing brightness before disapearing into the Sun's glare around the 14th January. It should emerge to be an equally impressive spectacle to Southern hemisphere skywatchers between 17th and 21st January

These four pictures were taken with a tripod-mounted Olympus digital camera set for x10 optical zoom between 5pm and 5.20pm on the 10th January. The comet was low in the south-western sky, about 20 degrees west of a brilliant Venus.
